We love Wellington!

Originally from the UK, I chose to make Wellington home almost 15 years ago.

There was a brief period of umming and ahhing, weighing up Christchurch or Auckland, driven largely by a desire to live in a big city after 10 years spent in rural Aberdeenshire in the north-east of Scotland. But with family already based in Wellington, and Blenheim, the decision for Wellington seemed the most practical solution and we have never looked back.

We love everything about this city. From waterfront strolls, city beaches, to hills, parks, ridgelines, mountain bike tracks and green spaces. From the buzz of the harbour to theatres, independent cinemas, arts, comedy and live music. From Te Papa Tongarewa and Tākina, to world-class coffee, neighbourhood cafés, destination restaurants, fresh fruit and vege markets, craft beer and locally produced wines. And with a buzzing film industry,  a city-centre airport, ferry connections, and of course Zealandia Wildlife Sanctuary, the city punches high!

The Lonely Planet once named it “the coolest little capital in the world” and this title still rings so true.

Through Walkington, I’m on a mission to encourage more people to visit our capital and experience Wellington through the eyes of a local and be active by day and indulge by night. Because I can confidently say: you will not be disappointed… even on our wild and windy days.
